MYTH; PREGNANCY AND AFTER DELIVERY

A First-Time Mama? Let’s Bust These 12 Pregnancy & Postpartum Myths Together

Hi moms,
If you’re a first-time mom or just stepping into the world of nursing, let’s take a moment to breathe. There’s so much joy and (even chaos) in this season, but also, so many myths. Everyone seems to have an opinion about what you should be doing. But not everything you hear is true, and not everything that’s "common" is actually helpful. Here are 12 myths we’re tossing into the trash can, so you can focus on what really matters: loving your baby and caring for yourself.

1. “You’re eating for two!”

Reality check: You’re nourishing a baby, yes; but that doesn’t mean doubling your portions. Focus on quality, not quantity.

2. “Morning sickness only happens in the morning.”

Reality check: Nausea can strike anytime. Keep snacks nearby, stay hydrated, and rest when needed.

3. “No workouts while pregnant.”

Reality check: Movement helps. Try walking, stretching, or prenatal yoga—with your doctor’s go-ahead.

4. “Heartburn means your baby will have lots of hair.”

Reality check: Heartburn is hormonal, not hair-related. A bald baby is just as normal.

5. “Pregnant women should avoid all seafood.”

Reality check: Low-mercury fish like salmon are great for your baby’s brain. Just skip the high-mercury types.

6. “You’ll bounce back after delivery.”

Reality check: Recovery takes time. You’re evolving—give yourself grace and rest.

7. “Breastfeeding prevents pregnancy.”

Reality check: It can delay ovulation, but it’s not foolproof. Consider a backup contraceptive.

8. “Postpartum depression shows up right after birth.”

Reality check: It might come later. If you feel lost or overwhelmed, speak up. Help is strength.

9. “C-section is the easy way out.”

Reality check: It’s major surgery, not easy. It’s courageous. All birth stories are valid and powerful.

10. “Breastfeeding is the only way to bond.”

Reality check: Bonding is much more than feeding. It’s eye contact, cuddles, singing, and love.

11. “Pregnant women shouldn’t work under the sun.”

Reality check: Sun isn’t harmful in moderation. Just hydrate, wear sunscreen, and avoid peak heat.

12. “Eating snail and okro will make your baby drool a lot.”

Reality check: No scientific basis. Drooling is natural. Snail and okra are nutritious!
