When Baby Cries
Most moms experience panic or anxiety when their baby is crying, especially when nothing seems to work. It's important to stay calm and methodically check for the common causes of distress. Often, one of the following issues is the reason for the crying:
- I'm hungry
- I have colic
- I need to be held
- I'm tired and I need a rest
- I'm too cold or too hot
- I need my nappy changing
- I don't feel well
If Baby Is Still Crying
As you get to know your baby's personality, you'll learn which techniques soothe her best. If a cuddle or a feed doesn’t work, try the following:
- Play a constant sound your baby is used to from the womb or a calming sound they like.
- Gently rock the baby in your arms, in a rocking chair, or in a baby swing.
- Try a gentle massage or tummy rub.
- Give her a warm bath.
- Offer breastfeeding or a pacifier.
When Nothing Seems to Help
Don’t panic. Sometimes babies cry excessively and no obvious reason can be found. Here’s what to do:
- Remember you're not the cause of the crying. Sometimes simply accepting this can ease your anxiety.
- Put your baby safely in their cot and step away for a few minutes to calm yourself.
- Call a friend or relative for support — even a short break can help.
- Join a mom support group to talk through your fears and share experiences.
- Talk to your doctor or pediatrician for additional support and coping strategies.
Note: You’re doing your best, and sometimes a baby just needs time. Your instincts are powerful, so trust them, and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it. 💖
